Max & Tom

Two people on an unconventional journey, hoping to inspire others along the way.

Who are we?

We’re Max (Maxine) and Tom Swinhoe.
We met at Winchester University in 2009, tied the knot in June 2019 and in 2020 we converted a Citroen Relay LWB van into a tiny home on wheels called Gloria.

We’re seeking adventure and a simpler way to live that focuses on wellbeing and happiness. We’ve had several life-changing adventures with their own unique challenges and rewards, but the one thing they’ve taught us is, the further we get from the ‘norm’ the more life makes sense.

Because we love it.

And being out in nature is where we are content; whilst also being open to new experiences and meeting new people along the way. We are pursuing a simpler life for a healthy mind and body so we can make every day on this beautiful planet count, whether that means going on an long hikes, or simply being in beautiful places.

For us every day is different with its own challenges but the most important thing for us, is that this life gives us a sense of purpose.

Why we do it?

What have we done?

Our adventures so far have taken us around the world; from North, South and Central America to Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

We’ve seen Wonders of the World, hiked world-famous trails like Machu Picchu and to Everest Base Camp, dived with sharks, snorkelled with Whale Sharks, camped in the Amazon and walked every step of 2,189-mile Appalachian Trail – the longest hiking-only footpath in the world.

And we have a lifetime of adventure left…

In 2020 we set out to hike 14 National Trails in the United Kingdom but Covid happened, so now, we’re kickstarting the mission once again to hike a total of 2422 miles – nearly 70,000 metres of elevation. This is the equivalent of walking from London to Edinburgh over 7 times and ascending Mount Everest nearly 8 times. In short, it’s far, it’s hard, it’s going to hurt but we love a challenge.

We’re calling it the Walk For Good 2021 because it is for good; it marks a pivotal moment and a good change in our life; walking is good for mental and physical health and we’re determined to raise money for two charities that are close to us.

Because we love it.

We love being out in nature, having new experiences and making lifelong friends along the way. We are pursuing a simpler life, a healthy mind and body and we want to make every day on this beautiful planet count, whether that means going on an adventurous hikes, or simply placing ourselves in beautiful surroundings. The best part is, nature is free.

Our every day is different and full of unknown challenges but the most important thing for us, is that this life gives us purpose.
